Germany has ‘Children’s Hour’ - Gas War Preparations, Berlin, 1938

“The fear of gas warfare prior to World War II had both the Allied and Axis nations preparing for the ‘inevitable.’ In 1938, when Adolf Hitler pushed east and demanded partial annexation of Czechoslovakia he was concerned that the drive might backfire and Berlin would be attacked. To prepare the city, he had school children don gas masks and undergo gas attack drills. In order to make the drills more realistic the children were required to pass through a gas filled chamber wearing their masks.”
